Medicare Part B (Insurance Coverage)

Medicare covers therapeutic continuous glucose monitors such as the Freestyle Libre 2. No prior authorization is needed for a patient with Medicare Part B insurance. Medicare will cover 80% of the cost of Freestyle Libre 2 after your deductible for the year has been met. You will be responsible for 20% of the price. If you have secondary insurance, CGM Monitors will bill your secondary insurance for the 20% that Medicare does not cover.

Patient Responsibility

Secondary insurance could be your State Medicaid insurance or Medicare Supplement insurance. A Medigap policy —also called Medicare Supplement insurance —can cover out-of-pocket costs for the Medicare Part B deductible and coinsurance.

Medicare Advantage plans are also required to cover everything included in Medicare Part A and B but may offer additional benefits. Private insurers sell both Medigap and Medicare Advantage plans.
