We all know that living with diabetes is not easy. If we do not take proper care of ourselves or our loved ones who have diabetes, then it can lead to further severe problems. These problems caused by blood sugar can be worse than what one can imagine. We will only discuss the effects on the eyes caused by diabetes and how to refocus eye health with just the help of good diet management and nutrition.  

If not taken care of, diabetes can hurt your vessels in the eye (retina vessels to be more specific) which can lead to diabetic retinopathy. And if we do not treat this diabetic retinopathy well, this can further lead to vision loss as well.

Keep your Blood Sugar Controlled 

The key is to keep your sugar levels controlled to avoid any complications. Planning and consuming a balanced meal can surely help you save from abnormally high or low sugar levels.  

Eye Checkups 

Make sure to get some regular eye checkups. Regular checkups help you with early diagnosis which definitely leads to early treatment and prevention.  

 Healthy Diet

People with diabetes need to have a special focus on their diet. Since foods rich in vitamins A, C and E are good for eye health. We need to add citrus fruits, green leafy foods, fish, and nuts to our diet. This will help keep your overall health better.  

 Reduce screen time 

Try using the screen less and in case you work on screens on a daily basis then try following the 20 – 20 rule. After every 20 minutes try looking at something which is 20 feet far and keep looking for around 20 seconds, this will reduce the strain.  

 Try to cut off blue light

Continuous exposure to blue light can cause severe damage to your eyes. You may find it useful to use goggles or safety glasses that block blue light.  

 Weight Management 

This is one of the most important factors. We may not only need to maintain but to reduce some weight as well. Along with a healthy diet, try doing some little walks as well. If you simply feel that you are unable to walk, then start with at least 10 10-minute walk and gradually increase it. Do not push yourself too much. Even a 3 – 5 percent weight loss can help you maintain your sugar levels better.
